Bungalow Renovation - PUKETAHA SUMMER HOUSE
The owners of a stunning 1911 bungalow in Epsom asked us convert their tired 1930s garage/shed into an attractive summer house as part of a proposed swimming pool development. In addition to bathroom and changing facilities for the pool, our clients wanted a study/office which could also be used as guest accommodation, and a shady porch area to relax in during the hot summer months.
Using the language of the original bungalow, tapered columns support the deep verandah roof, and the roofline of the old garage was altered to incorporate two dormer style windows in the north and south hips. Leadlight windows in these cast light and shadow onto the timber floors below.
Tiled flooring in the verandah, sun porch/changing room and bathroom link these areas with the pool, providing a cool haven for the summer. In the study, tongue & groove floors, ceilings and walls to a waist height dado, combined with thick rugs and richly textured fabrics create a cosy old-fashioned drawing room style.
