Bungalow alterations - Lal house
The owners of this Epsom bungalow were generally happy with their home - they just needed an adults' bathroom and somewhere for visiting family members to sleep - other than the lounge! The kitchen was also cramped and outdated, and in the wrong place. But the layout of bedrooms and living areas worked well, and our clients wanted minimal disruption to these parts of their home.
The master bedroom was extended at the front of the house to make room for an en-suite and large walk-in wardrobe, enlarging the room a little as well. The new bedroom features a bay window with leadlight windows made especially to match the leadlights in the lounge bay. The existing deck at the front of the house was also extended, providing a generous entertaining area which enjoys the last of the afternoon sun.
At the rear of the house, a small extension and the wasted space in the existing large laundry were combined to create a respectable guest bedroom and office, with the laundry moved to a convenient cupboard. The kitchen, which previously doubled as a narrow thoroughfare to the laundry, was moved to ensure easy access from the dining and family rooms to the outdoors without disturbing the cook. |
